Yazhou “Leo” Jiang has been appointed assistant professor of electrical & computer engineering at Clarkson University.
He received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering-power systems from Washington State University and his bachelor of engineering degree in electrical engineering from Huazhong University of Science & Technology.
Jiang’s research interests are electric power and energy systems with a focus on grid flexibility for integration of variable renewable resources such as wind and solar; fast power recovery to improve grid resilience; situational awareness and control of power distribution systems with distributed energy resources; and interdependent critical infrastructures.
He has published more than 20 research articles in IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, Energies, and International Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems, among other publications. He has also been regularly invited as a session chair in conferences or for technical review activities by leading publishers such as IEEE, IET, and Elsevier.
Prior to joining Clarkson, he was a power system engineer at GE Global Research in Niskayuna, N.Y. At GE, Jiang led an international GE team with grants from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop methodologies and tools to unlock the potentials of storage technologies for improved grid reliability, stability, and economics of power grids with high variable renewables. Due to his contribution to differentiating GE products, Jiang was a GE Dushman Technology Excellence Award recipient in 2018.
