Tiffany Sha, OTR/L ‘18, who graduated from Clarkson with a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy, and two of her friends, Stephanie Hui, OTD, OTR/L, and Pimm Buddhari have written and published a children’s book to encourage movement and interaction with the environment, and most importantly, promote fun! So the three women got together and came up with their new book, The Silly Simba Adventures: Simba Meets Max and Maia.
“We knew we wanted to create a book celebrating inclusivity and diversity. My co-author and I are both pediatric occupational therapists, we used our therapy mindset to create an engaging storyline that promotes various areas of development (i.e., sensory, coordination, fine motor, gross motor, executive functioning). Our illustrator was able to bring the story to life with playful characters full of varied emotions!” Sha said.
The Simba in the book is named after Sha’s dog, Simba the Chow Chow, who has amassed nearly 17,000 followers on Instagram (you can follow Simba at @simba.sha). The book is interactive and follows three characters: Silly Simba, Max, and Maia. The book starts with Max and Maia meeting Silly Simba, and they follow Silly Simba as he takes them on an adventure inside Max’s house. “This book has active elements of jumping, counting, taking deep breaths, finding items around the house, and other interactive components. We intentionally made this book to be an open dialogue between the child and the reader,” Sha said.
