New Executive Director Named to the Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley

Dr. Peter Anderson of Potsdam has been named the new Executive Director of the Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley.

After receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Classical Studies from the University of Ottawa, Anderson got his Ph.D. in Greek and Latin Philology from the University of Cincinnati. He started his career as a classics professor at Ohio University and finished his teaching career at Grand Valley State University in 2020 as full professor. He currently is a senior lecturer of classics at SUNY Potsdam and is the founder of Inner Citadel Consulting, where he leverages his expertise in education, emotional intelligence, executive coaching, and dialogue facilitation to develop leadership, inclusion, and a culture of mindfulness in higher education, non-profits, and teams.

SUNY Potsdam President and Associated Colleges Chair Dr. Kristin G. Esterberg said: “On behalf of the entire board of directors, I am delighted to welcome Dr. Peter Anderson as the Director of the Associated Colleges. Dr. Anderson will lead us in a pivotal moment as we reimagine higher education in the North Country following a pandemic that has reshaped how we educate and assist students in reaching their life and career goals. Dr. Anderson’s knowledge and expertise will only help to enhance the strong collaborations among the four campuses. We are grateful to Ben Dixon for his service and know that he will do terrific things for St. Lawrence County.”

The Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley was chartered by the New York State Board of Regents in 1970. Its four members are SUNY Canton, Clarkson University, SUNY Potsdam, and St. Lawrence University. The four presidents of the campuses serve as the governing board for the organization.

The consortium is a regional, multipurpose organization that fosters cooperative endeavors in a range of academic and administrative areas to expand the number and variety of educational opportunities for students, faculty and the community, to share resources, to avoid needless duplication and to innovate through joint action. The association represents more than 12,000 students.

Each member institution has a distinct character, history and curriculum and among them they bring a wealth of educational opportunities to northern New York. The collaborative work of the consortium is designed to enhance educational experiences while retaining the best of the members individual traditions and provides innovative methods of investing in new services while containing the cost of higher education.

Dr. Anderson replaces Ben Dixon, who is now the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.
