I am pleased to share with you the spring edition of the Lewis School of Health Sciences e-newsletter. Our students and faculty have persevered through a challenging winter and continue to pursue the interdisciplinary research and knowledge needed to solve the real-world problems facing all of us. PA Students Answer the Call

With the unprecedented speed and scope of the COVID-19 vaccine development came a formidable task: administering the vaccine. Undaunted, Clarkson’s PA students were quick to answer the state’s call for student volunteers to help with the vaccination effort. They worked with the St. Lawrence Health System to distribute vaccines throughout the community from a mobile vaccination clinic.

Hot Wheels

Beth Ann Davies wanted her occupational therapy capstone project to positively impact the local community. For one lucky child, that means being able to hit the road — or sidewalk, rather — in a new set of wheels Davies created by adapting a toy car. Retrofitted with the help of Davies’ fellow students, the car helps the child, who has disabilities, play and get around more independently.

Mental Health and the Pandemic

The pandemic has been difficult for everyone, but one Clarkson professor wants to know how it, combined with microaggressions, has affected the mental health of people of color and women. Professor Ali Boolani has partnered with Neurotrack to explore factors affecting mental health and cognition in underrepresented populations.

Two DPT Students Win Fellowships

Two doctor of physical therapy (DPT) students will have some financial help when they do their clinical rotations and apply for residencies this year. Emily Massey ’21 and Marissa DeAngelo ’21 received a 2020-21 Samuel B. Feitelberg Physical Therapy Endowed Fellowship, which provides funding to aid DPT students in developing cultural proficiency, particularly through clinical internships.
