COVID-19 Read: NYS HERO Act Extended- Masks & Screening Tool Continue Past Fall Break

University Community,

This past week, the NYS Department of Health Commissioner confirmed that the HERO Act designation put into place by Gov. Hochul on September 6, 2021 has been extended through at least October 31, 2021 based on DOH’s further review of the level of COVID-19 transmission in the State.  This means that Clarkson’s workplace safety plan remains in effect and we will continue to operate under the “minimum controls during an outbreak” specified in our plan.

With this extension, mask wearing indoors on campus except in your residences must continue as well as asking everyone to continue to use the daily screening tool prior to starting your day on campus.

While we had outlined in August a plan to assess changes to mask policies following our Fall Break, we will postpone this review until after NYS lifts the HERO Act requirements.

The mask policy, coupled with Clarkson’s 98.7%+ vaccination status, has contributed to keeping the transmission of COVID -19 low and masks have also kept other germs at bay on our campus. Clarkson was notified this afternoon that we have one new student and two employees with active cases of COVID-19 at this time.

Your personal diligence this fall has been truly admirable. Thank you and please continue good health practices during the break period and when we all return.
