Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed families are hard working families whose basic income barely covers the essentials, and one small financial problem creates a rippling effect that leads to situational poverty. ALICE families do not have a financial safety net nor do they qualify for government assistance; so the smallest crisis forces them to choose between addressing the problem – like an emergency car repair – and paying rent, utilities, medical and prescription copays, and food. No one should be forced to have to make a decision like that.
