Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month Schedule – Nov 8th

Kentenhkó:wa/November 1st to 30th

The act of recognizing a time each year for “Native Americans” date back to the efforts of Dr. Arthur C. Parker (Seneca) in the early 1900s, with numerous Presidents making a general announcement or proclamation.

In 1990 President George H. Bush officially had a joint resolution to proclaim November 1990 as “National American Indian Heritage Month” with similar resolutions adding to “National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month.”

This year Clarkson University recognizes November to be Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month in honor of all the Indigenous People that help shape the university into the community we all know. We specifically recognize the contributions of the Akwesasne Mohawk, Mohican, Haudenosaunee, and other Indigenous peoples have made, both in shaping and strengthening our campuses in particular.
