The Director of Clarkson’s Institute for a Sustainable Environment and a professor of Environmental Engineering, Dr. Susan Powers recently spent a week in Glasgow, Scotland attending COP26 – the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference. She attended hoping to gain greater insight into the challenges of tackling our climate crisis and learn more about the process. Join us on Monday, December 6 at 7:15 pm for a special Science Cafe.
In this extra – and timely – Science Café presentation she will share a brief scientific explanation of the key jargon – net-zero by 2050, 1.5 deg C, loss & damage – and offer her reflections on the work we all need to do to stabilize our climate. The conference, which offered both optimism and despair, also provided a clearer personal mandate for what needs to happen in our schools and local communities. She will describe and discuss her three key take-home messages: NOW, CAPACITY, EQUITY and NATURE.
For the health and safety of all, we will continue with a virtual platform (ZOOM) for the fall 2021 talks. The speaker will make a short presentation about a topic in his or her field and, as always, there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
