If your heat is off, or the water is not flowing through the heating system for some reason, the cold air can “fall” from your open window into the heater and cause the pipes to freeze and potentially break. A broken pipe will cause flooding in your and neighboring spaces. This can happen even if the room doesn’t feel that cold.
