In compliance with NYS Law, plastic bags will no longer be available on campus beginning 2/28/2022. Paper bags will be available at a $0.05 fee.
The Bag Waste Reduction law (Environmental Conservation Law ECL Article 27, Title 28) was put in place in response to the 23 billion plastic bags that are used annually in NYS. The DEC states that, “Plastic bag usage affects both our communities and environment. Plastic bags can be seen stuck in trees, as litter in our neighborhoods, and floating in our waterways. From the significant recycling and disposal issues they pose to the harm they can do to wildlife, the negative impacts of plastic bags are easily seen.” Instead of relying on plastic bags, stay prepared by packing your own reusable bags.
