ABOUT SLC Arts
SLC Arts is a nonprofit organization that strives is to enrich the vibrancy of the North Country by cultivating art appreciation and inspiring creative expression. The organization started in 1972 as the Arts and Humanities Council of the St. Lawrence Valley, reincorporated in 1989 as the Tri-County Arts Council and amended in 1999 to the St. Lawrence County Arts Council. Over our 50 year history, SLC Arts has continued to strive to make the arts a pillar of our North Country community.

This past year has seen a series of milestones for the organization, including the creation of a signature annual event series, the North Country Arts Festival, an expansion of our granting services to include $100,000 in subgranting funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the purchase of 6-8 Raymond St in Potsdam, the first step in developing the Creative Spirit Community Arts Center. SLC Arts celebrates its 50th year of operation in a space created for local artists of all disciplines, arts and cultural organizations, and the greater community to come together to celebrate all of the creativity within the North Country.

At the Creative Spirit Community Arts Center you will be able to experience arts programming and various workshops to learn how to create art of your own. You will also be able to see the various art forms from local artists, including paintings, books, digital art, fiber art, woodworking, soaps, jewelry, magnets, clothing, pottery, metalwork, and so much more, all available for purchase! The “Family Roots” art exhibit, an intimate collection of artwork by local artists as part of this year’s “Identity” series of exhibits, is currently available for viewing in our entry gallery wall.

Enjoy a beverage with your colleagues and then have a bite to eat downtown at one of Potsdam’s many restaurants. As we tell our students, Potsdam is the quintessential college town, ready for you to explore together.

We hope you can join us! If you have any questions, please call 315-268-4483.

(Supervisors are reminded that they can release their staff early for this University event.)
