Clarkson Professor Receives Outstanding Service Award from NNY Section of the American Chemical Society

Clarkson Research Professor Dana Barry (of Canton, NY) was recently honored for her outstanding service to the Northern New York Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS). She served as Secretary of this section for 25 years. Section Chair Professor Martin Walker presented Dr. Barry with the award at the Section’s 12th Annual NNY ACS Research Symposium held at SUNY Potsdam on April 2, 2022.  Dr. Barry has been a dedicated member of the ACS, which is one of the world’s largest scientific organizations, for 50 years. So far, she has coordinated the Section’s National Chemistry Week and Earth Week for more than 10 consecutive years. She is also a Chemistry Ambassador for the society.

Dr. Martin Walker, Chair of the NNY Section of the ACS and Chair Professor of the Chemistry Department at SUNY Potsdam, presents an Outstanding Service Award to Clarkson Research Professor Dana Barry.

Dr. Barry received the Local ACS Section’s Outstanding Achievement Award in 2002 and its Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award in 2017. Her international program for promoting chemistry in the United States, Japan, and Malaysia won the American Chemical Society’s National Chem Luminary Award for Public Relations in 2003. She organized the Science Education Symposiums for NERM (Northeast Regional Meeting for the American Chemical Society) at Clarkson University (1999) and for NERM at SUNY Potsdam (2010), where she was an invited speaker. In addition, her paper, “The Environmental Risks of Using Combustion as a Source of Energy,” was included in the American Chemical Society’s online CONFCHEM (2001).

Dr. Barry is a Research Professor in Clarkson’s Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. She has many honors to her name, five graduate degrees, and over 300 academic/professional publications. Her work is published in the United States, Japan, England, Malaysia, China, India, Singapore, and other countries. In addition to her position at Clarkson, Barry serves as a professor and scientific board president for Ansted University, and as an instructional support assistant at SUNY Canton. Also, she has been a visiting professor overseas, numerous times.
