Clarkson Mechanical Engineering Professor, Graduate Alumna Win American Welding Society Award

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Professor Daryush Aidun, along with graduate student alumna Ms. Fatemeh Hejripour have been awarded the Charles H. Jennings Award from the American Welding Society for their paper, “Effects of Processing Parameters on Wire Arc Additive Manufactured Inconel® 718.” The award ceremony will be held in November in Atlanta, GA.

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the solidification sub-structure and morphology of nickel superalloys such as Inco 718 made by Additive Manufacturing Process which is used in Aerospace applications.

Dr. Aidun was among other Clarkson winners of this award in 2020 as well. Dr. Hejripour received her Ph.D. under Dr. Aidun’s supervision in 2020, she currently works as a Senior Engineer at CARRIER Co. in Syracuse, NY.

The Charles H. Jennings award is sponsored by the American Welding Society in honor of Charles H. Jennings, who served as American Welding Society’s President from 1951–52. This award is presented for the most valuable paper written by a college student or faculty representative published in the Welding Journal during the previous calendar year.
