Message From the Director
Spring at Clarkson means melting snow and students wearing shorts in questionable weather. But, the season also has other exciting developments, as we welcome a new President to Clarkson! As President-Elect Marc Christensen joins us in Potsdam, our Honors students are traveling beyond the campus. They are finding out about internships for the coming year, presenting at conferences and finishing up their capstone projects. We in Honors are tremendously proud of their dogged pursuit of learning, their curiosity and their exploration of the world. In this issue you’ll read about our students’ academic travels: Duff Crochiere’s scholarship to travel to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine, Peter Dorovitsine’s chemical engineering internship in Germany and Abigail Kuenzle’s Civil Engineering presentation at a convention in Florida. And, in May, we’ll be sending off our Class of 2022 with a celebration of their many accomplishments! Clarkson Honors students are going places, and we’re here to cheer them on.

New Knight in the Realm
It’s official! The Clarkson Board of Trustees has selected Marc P. Christensen to lead the University as the 17th President. President-Elect Christensen will be joining us from Texas, where he is dean of the Lyle School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University. We are very excited to welcome him to the Clarkson community this July. READ MORE
Job on the Horizon
Honors student George “Duff” Crochiere ’25 may only be a first-year student, but he already has a full-time job waiting for him after graduation — with the Department of Defense, no less. It’s all part of the SMART (Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation) Scholarship Crochiere recently received. READ MORE
Germany Bound
Peter Dorovitsine ’24 is heading to Germany this summer, thanks to a RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) Germany scholarship. This Honors and chemical engineering student is looking forward to putting his major, as well as his minor, in computer science to good use at Brunswick Technical University. READ MORE
A Concrete Honor
The Spring 2022 American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Convention had a special guest this year. Honors student Abigail Kienzle ’23 was invited by the ACI to present her research on belitic calcium sulfoaluminate cement, which has a lower carbon footprint and embodied energy and sets more quickly than traditional cements.
