KaHo Leung, an Assistant Professor of Chemistry & Biomolecular Science at Clarkson University, has been awarded a five-year, $1.8 million Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award (MIRA) Early Stage Investigator Award, from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), part of the National Institute of Health.
The funding supports research in chloride ion imaging which increases understanding of organellar chloride in biological processes.
The goal of MIRA is to increase the efficiency of NIGMS funding by providing investigators with greater stability and flexibility, thereby enhancing scientific productivity and the chances for important breakthroughs. The program will also help distribute funding more widely among the nation’s highly talented and promising investigators.
The grant will also fund graduate students and will provide research opportunities for undergraduate students, to help them accomplish their professional goals.
Professor KaHo Leung joined Clarkson University as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biomolecular Science in 2021. His research interest lies in the development of subcellular imaging tools and its application in cell physiology studies.
