CHJC TO HOLD VIRTUAL FOSTER PARENTING/KINSHIP CAREGIVER INFORMATIONAL SESSION

Oswego County: The Children’s Home of Jefferson County’s (CHJC) Therapeutic Foster Care Program

will host a free in-person and virtual Foster Parent/Kinship Caregiver Informational Session on August

18, 2022. Please join the session at the Catholic Charity located at 808 West Broadway, Fulton, New York 13069 or connect virtually by going onto the CHJC Website, www.chjc.org. The session will begin at 6:00pm.

Anyone interested in learning more about Foster Parenting and/or caring for your relatives, loved ones, Fictive Kin, or known child in need, is welcome and encouraged to attend. Foster Parent/Kinship training classes will begin virtually via Zoom on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, and continue for nine weeks thereafter. The CHJC Therapeutic Foster Care Program provides temporary care for children unable to live with their birth families or guardians. The Foster Care Program allows children who may have been abused or neglected and/or have behavioral challenges and special needs, the opportunity to live in a family setting, attend public school and be an active member of the community. To provide support for the needs of the entire family, in addition to 24-hour on-call services and crisis response, extensive training is offered to all Foster Parents/Kinship Caregivers. Foster Parents/Kinship Caregivers work as members of a treatment team alongside families, social workers, and other professionals to help prepare a child to return to his/her birth family. Positive adult alliances, communication, and teamwork are critical to the healthy development of children and their long-term success. Through direct guidance and support, you as a Foster Parent or Kinship Caregiver will act as a role model and mentor toward the family reunification process.
