Office of University Advising Resources and Updates

The Office of University Advising (OUA) continues to support the University’s long-term goals of providing services and support under the Center for Student Achievement and Academic Affairs.

The OUA Office serves as a bridge between faculty and students in creating a holistic academic advising relationship to provide pathways in collaboration with other offices across campus. This is done by working alongside:  University Registrar, Bursar, Financial Aid, Academic Support Services and Student Engagement, which primarily focuses on student belonging, persistence and retention initiatives.

OUA has strived in the past year to build and establish relationships and visibility on campus by being centrally located and providing the necessary tools and information/training to all faculty, professional advisors, and students.  We have successfully accomplished this by creating an open-door policy, OUA website and mailbox , five-week advising guides (which include dates to major exams in first-year courses) for all faculty and professional advisors, training new faculty advisors, providing workshops and presentations in FY100 and sophomore seminars on how to prepare themselves for advising meetings with advisors, and much, much, more.

This approach is supported through the infrastructure and application of the University’s Academic Regulations/Program degree requirements, University Catalog, data analytics, research and best practices supported by NACADA (the National Academic Advising Assoc), and by providing helpful resources and tools to successfully increase persistence, student satisfaction and graduation.

OUA thanks you for your support and looks forward to working with you in the coming year.  You will hear more from us regarding student and faculty workshops and training opportunities which will  improve service to our students and  advisors.
