Hello People Who Know Hockey Rules and the Game Well.
The 2023 Winter World University Games are being hosted this January in Lake Placid, NY and the surrounding area. The men’s and women’s hockey tournaments will be held in Canton, Potsdam and Lake Placid from Saturday January 7th thru Sunday January 22nd. Games will be played at Cheel Arena, Maxcy Hall, Roos House and the Lake Placid Olympic Center. It should be an exciting international ice hockey competition with team’s from Canada, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia, Sweden, Hungary, Japan, Great Britain, Korea, Ukraine and of course Team USA competing. In an effort to make this event as successful as possible we are in need of volunteers. All volunteers will receive the official Games Uniform package from Karbon as well as other benefits. There are many volunteer roles to sign up for the Games in Potsdam and the entire Olympic Region stretching over to Lake Placid and Gore Mountain and instructions on how to be a general volunteer are below, too. We are specifically looking for people who have a hockey background that could help fill one of the several volunteer opportunities available. Volunteer roles vary from statistician, penalty box operator, goal judge, game video personnel, and people to help oversee practices and pre-game skates. If you are interested and have done these roles in the past, please follow the directions below. It is important to note that by following these directions you will be indicating your interest to volunteer with ice hockey only (as opposed to being entered into the general volunteer pool).
Here are the directions for IHO specific volunteers:
Step 1: Click on the following link to register as a volunteer ** Important – When completing the volunteer registration form you will be asked the following question (right after you enter your home address) – “Will you be volunteering on behalf of a group, organization, or corporation? (Please Select YES if you are an Organizing Committee Referral or have a Volunteer Code to enter)“. You must select “YES”. The following question will ask “If yes, please indicate the group, organization, or corporation.” Select “OTHER” Lastly, it will state “If you selected “OTHER”, please elaborate below, if you selected “Organizing Committee Referral or Volunteer Code”, please enter the code below.” At this point you will enter the ice hockey volunteer code “SPTiho”. This will indicate to our volunteer team that you are interested in volunteering for roles offered under the ice hockey heading during the Games.
Step 2: After registering as a volunteer, click on the following link for the ice hockey specific volunteer shifts. You will be prompted to enter your name and email address from registration. After submitting that information the lists of available volunteer shifts should appear.
