Tall Ship Nao Trinidad in Ogdensburg, NY This Weekend

Tall Ship Nao Trinidad arrived in Ogdensburg, NY on Thursday, September 8 for a multi-day visit, including the Old River Fest on Saturday, September 10. The Nao Trinidad is a replica of Ferdinand Magellan’s ship (1519-1522) that made the first circumnavigation around the globe, and now serves as a floating museum of Spanish maritime heritage. The exquisite ship boasts four masts, five sails and five decks. The ship has spent the summer in the Great Lakes, and will be open for tours at Morrisette Park in Ogdensburg September 8-11, 10am-6:30pm. Boarding passes for a visit any of the days can be purchased online (www.naotrinidad.org) or at the ship. The boarding pass grants free admission to the Frederic Remington Museum and Ogdensburg History Museum, providing for a great day of enjoying Ogdensburg’s rich history at multiple locations.

The inaugural Old River Fest will kick off Friday night, September 9th with a block party featuring food trucks and live music by Double Axel on Washington Street in front of the Frederic Remington Art Museum, from 5-8pm.

Saturday, September 10th is the celebration of Old River Fest, with a full schedule of family friendly events, which can be found on www.OldRiverFest.com. A 5k run / walk on the Maple City Trail will begin from the Dobisky Center (100 Riverside Ave) at 8:30am. Ship tours, vendors, and food trucks will be open from 10am-5pm. At 12:30 a ‘Pirate Parade’ welcomes all ages in pirate garb to walk (or stroller or wheelchair) a short distance for a photo in front of tall ship Nao Trinidad, and on to  Library Park where family activities will occur from 1-3pm, including a raingutter regatta hosted by the Friends of the Library, where one can make a little boat to race against friends. Ogdensburg Command Performance will have free face painting too. Live music by Jaynie Trudell and Merryweather will be on the Gazebo stage from 11:30-6:30 with a break in between.  Admission to Old River Fest is free, and tours of tall ship Nao Trinidad (10am-6:30pm) are $15 for adults (12 yrs+), $5 for kids (5-12yrs), free for under 5 and $35 for a family (2 adults and up to 3 kids (5-12yrs).

On Sunday, artists are invited to set up at the dock to paint the Tall Ship and surrounding scenery. All work will be for sale on site by the artists as well as on display at the Creative Spirit Community Arts Center following the event.
