Earlier this month, Clarkson University played host to 100 leaders in the field of functional materials chemistry as it hosted the first Clarkson Materials Chemistry Symposium on Oct. 1 and 2.
The one-and-a-half-day symposium focused on advanced materials for emerging science and technology. It brought together leaders in the field from across the northeastern United States and Canada. Organized by Kodak CAMP Distinguished Professor Mario Wriedt and Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP) Director Devon Shipp, the symposium featured 19 invited speakers, three keynotes and one plenary speaker, along with student and postdoc posters.
“Overall, it was very well attended. It was a fantastic event for networking,” Wriedt said. “This was about getting people from the area together.”
The symposium, which Wriedt said has been in the works for years and was finally feasible this fall, was a prime opportunity for leaders in the field to share their work, while also affording students who were presenting posters a chance to engage with industry experts.
Shipp added that the event was an opportunity for Clarkson to remain a prominent name in functional materials chemistry.
“Hosting a symposium that attracts 100 experts in the field of materials chemistry demonstrates that Clarkson is a leader in this field,” Shipp said. “Our aim is to continue to offer our colleagues opportunities to network and grow connections within academics and industry.”
Wriedt and Shipp also thanked the sponsors for the symposium, which include Clarkson’s Center for Advanced Materials Processing, Clarkson University School of Arts and Sciences, American Chemical Society (ACS) Local Section Northern New York, Bruker, and Rigaku.
