Clarkson Student, Faculty Member Recognized at New York State Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Conference

Two members of Clarkson University’s Department of Education were recognized at the New York State Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (NYS TESOL) Conference in White Plains, NY on November 4, 2022.  

MAT ESOL student Kimberly Kern received the James E. Weaver Recognition Award, which is given annually to an outstanding teacher candidate who is matriculated in a TESOL-related undergraduate or graduate degree-granting program in New York State.  Kimberly is completing her full-year teaching residency in the Guilderland Central School District and will graduate in December 2023.   

Adjunct Faculty Member Maria Fielteau received the Marie and Richard Baecher Teacher Leadership Award for the important contributions she makes as a teacher leader to English learner education.  Maria is a National Board Certified Teacher and has been an adjunct in the TESOL Program since 2018.  In addition, she teaches English as a New Language (ENL) at Thomas R. Proctor High School in Utica, NY.

Both Kimberly and Maria participated in this year’s annual conference and were featured in the Awards Ceremony.
