Clarkson Graduate Student Wins Travel Grant to Present at the American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR)

Mahender Singh Rawat, a graduate student in Clarkson’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, working under the supervision of Professor Andrea Ferro, was awarded the 2022 travel grant from the American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) for his oral and poster presentation at the 40th AAAR Annual Conference, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Rawat’s oral presentation discussed the work on respiratory aerosol emission under which he analyzed the impact of age progression influences the particle production rate from children through adults. The results of this study demonstrate that respiratory particle production increases with age progression.

Rawat’s poster presentation discussed the work on the measurement of airborne virus (Influenza A) concentration before and after resuspension activity under which he determined the effect of resuspension on indoor virus concentration. The results of this study demonstrate that the indoor concentration and potential inhalation exposure resulting from the resuspension source was two orders of magnitude lower than that from the initial emission.
