Village Attendant Knowles Hall, SUNY Potsdam
Athlete Village assistants are responsible for supporting the Athlete’s Village functional area at various
delegation housing sites including at Potsdam, Queensbury, Paul Smiths, and the Lake Placid area.
This role will interface with athletes’, coaches & team staff from many countries and will assist with
access control, athlete lounges & entertainment areas, resident services, and housing areas. In addition,
Village assistants will help to answer general questions about the Village, services offered and
information about the local area.
This role is communication heavy, therefore the ability to communicate with a wide variety of
individuals while maintaining flexibility and attentiveness is a must. This role will require a significant
amount of standing and walking.

Delegation Service Desk Maxcy Hall
The delegation service center assistant is responsible for addressing/assisting with general questions or
issues which may arise within any/all Athletic Villages (e.g., housing, transportation, competition
schedules, tours, laundry, etc.). This role requires good communication skills, as well as always
maintaining cultural sensitivity. The ability to discern, minimize, and mitigate concerns with a high level
of empathy, concern, and tact is required. Volunteers should have the ability to motivate others, be
approachable, kind, and happy, and be customer service minded. The ability to embrace technology is
also a benefit.

Protocol and FISU Relations Attendant Cheel Arena, Maxcy Hall, Roos House
The Protocol & FISU Relations Attendant is responsible for creating a warm and welcoming environment
to the FISU Family members and Organizational Committee VIPs at competition venues,
Opening/Closing Ceremonies, and/or FISU Family Hotel. This role includes being the interface with Food
& Beverage for VIP refreshments, guide/escort VIPs to and from seating areas, assist VIP transportation
needs, as well as control access to FISU Family/VIP lounges. This role also includes escorting Medal
Ceremony presenters to the awards area. This role will require a significant amount of walking and
standing. Due to the nature of the position, these roles must be filled by individuals who are able to
communicate fluently in the necessary languages as well as maintain cultural sensitivity.
These volunteers will also be assigned to providing language support at competition and noncompetition venues on an as-needed basis. This could include interpretation support for mixed-zone
interviews, minor medical needs and in the doping control process. They should be on call as language
needs arise throughout venues to support other LP23 staff and volunteers facilitate communication
between delegations and the Organizing Committee as well as with medical teams and members of
press.


Protocol and FISU Relations Manager Cheel Arena, Maxcy Hall, Roos House
The main responsibility of the Venue Protocol & FISU Relations Managers will be to manage and support
PFR volunteers to successfully fulfill their tasks. They will also oversee organizing shift changes and any
on-site adjustments for volunteers. They should be the main points of contact for the PFR at the venues
reporting back to the PFR Head and manager. They will be in charge of restricting entrance into FISU
Family/ VIP lounges and work with other FAs at each venue.

Transportation Assistant Knowles Hall (Village), Cheel Arena, Maxcy Hall, Roos House
The responsibilities of transportation assistants include, ensuring load zones are well managed and
cleared appropriately, ensure that busing and shuttle schedules are running according to schedule,
provide support to travelers loading/off-loading to/from vehicles, providing wayfaring assistance, as well
as assist delegation drivers. Individuals in this role should have a good working knowledge of the local
and regional roadways as well as with the LP23 transportation plans. This position will include long
periods of standing and walking in winter temperatures.

TX Driver Knowles Hall
Volunteers in this position will drive guest to and from competition and non-competition venues as
assigned. Drivers must maintain communication with the fleet dispatch and be flexible for multiple
assignments while on shift. Drivers must have good communication skills and be able to interact with
the guests to answer basic questions related to wayfinding at the destinations.
Individuals in this role should be reliable, calm, polite and friendly with a knowledge of local roadways.
Strong driving skills and a clean driving record with the ability to pass an MVR are required. The ability
to utilize an app-based navigation system and /or follow pre-determined driving instructions is a must.

Event Communications Captain Cheel Arena, Maxcy Hall, Roos House
Event communications captain will work to keep venue event managers informed as well as monitor,
distribute and maintain radios at their given venue. This will include, recharging radios, regularly
checking the radio “fleet map” is working, being in touch with service providers to address any issues
with the radios, as well as keep ongoing notes and status reports for the venue managers. Individuals in
this role should have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g., Word and Excel).

Workforce Management Lounge Attendant Cheel Arena, Maxcy Hall, Roos House

Individuals in this role will be working directly with the Venue Workforce Managers. Their
responsibilities can/will include, checking in paid and volunteer workforce members to the venue/sites,
distribute meal vouchers and incentive items as applicable, maintain the workforce breakroom/lounge,
lend support to any function area managers with scheduling and general needs, and/or serve as a
motivator and advocate for workforce members and report any needs/issues directly to Workforce
Management. This role will require attention to detail as well as frequent standing and walking. _________________________________________________________________________
Media and Broadcast Assistant Cheel Arena, Maxcy Hall, Roos House
Media Operations Assistants
All Communications and Media Services Volunteers will have the title of Media Operations
Assistants. Daily assignments will fall into one of four areas dependent upon volunteer preference,
comfort level with duties, experience, and qualifications. All volunteers will receive training in all CMS
areas prior to your first shift, but please be assured you will only be assigned in areas in which you are
comfortable and confident.
CMS Volunteer daily shift assignments will generally be in one or more of the following areas dependent
upon priority areas of need for the given shift.
• Media Workroom/Press Tribune/Help Desk
• Photo Operations
• Mixed Zone Operations/Flash Quote Reporter
• Press Release Writer/Social Media Attendant
Media Workroom/Press Tribune/Help Desk
• Assist with opening and closing of venue media workroom
• Assist with the overall functionality of the venue media workroom
• Maintain safety and cleanliness of venue media workroom
• Ensure that start lists and results are readily available to media
• Monitor the Media Zone website for pertinent news and announcements
• Ensure that venue media workrooms in-house gear and equipment (i.e. copiers, media
zone link, copier, television monitors) are in daily working order
• Assist Media, FISU TV, ESPN and other television rights holders as needed by answering
their questions/or finding the answer to the best of your ability.
• If your venue has a Press Tribune, you will be expected to provide the same client
experience to media sitting in the Press Tribune area
• Monitor the Media Lounge area to ensure that beverages and refreshments are readily
available in coordination with the venue food and beverage team
• Ensure that the media workroom and media lounge stay clean, tidy and organized
• Assist with snow removal from entry and exit of venue media workroom as needed
Photo Operations
Responsibilities include:
• Assist with opening and closing of venue media workroom
• Assist with the overall functionality of the venue media workroom
• Maintain safety and cleanliness of venue media workroom
• Assist Photographers as needed by answering their questions/or finding the answer to
the best of your ability
• Assisting the Venue Media Manager or Cluster Venue Photo Manager in delivering
venue photo protocol briefing to new photographers on venue
• Help direct/escort Photographers to designated photo positions on venue including
relaying the expected protocol for photographers in those positions
• Monitor photo positions near the field of play to ensure that photographers follow
established protocol
• Monitor media backdrops and signage to ensure that it is presentable
• Assist with snow removal from pathways to photo positions as needed
Mixed Zone Operator/Flash Quote Reporter
Responsibilities include:
• Assist with opening and closing of venue media workroom when needed
• Assist with the overall functionality of the venue media workroom
• Produce event and results-based flash quotes in an accurate and timely manner
• Ensure that FISU-TV, ESPN, television rights holders and media are properly placed in
mixed zone
• Assist Lake Placid FISU World University Games’ athletes and delegates proceed through
mixed zone with reporters
• Assist Venue Media Manager with special request interview needs
• Assist as needed with snow removal to ensure safe walking pathway through the Mixed
Zone
Press Release Writer/Social Media Attendant
Responsibilities include:
• Assist with opening and closing of venue media workroom
• Assist with the overall functionality of the venue media workroom
• Produce event and results-based press release(s) in an accurate and timely manner
• Contribute articles/copy for nightly electronic newsletter
• Other duties may include recording/transcribing flash quotes, for social media content
• Assist when needed, edit and approval of all flash quotes originating from venue
• As appropriate interact with athletes, fans, volunteers, officials, media, etc., who are
engaging with the Lake Placid 2023
