Message From the Dean

As we near the end of the fall semester, I am pleased to reflect back on the positive impacts Golden Knights in the Lewis School of Health Sciences have had — on each other, on their communities and on their futures. In this newsletter, we are featuring some of their efforts that exemplify the values of Clarkson and the medical professions, as well as the rewards they have received for such efforts.

Reckoning With Racism

As the discussion on the impacts of systemic racism continues, Clarkson’s Lewis School and the Health Sciences Library will address the issue from a medical perspective. Reckoning With Race and Racism in Healthcare and Medicine, a project funded by a Northern New York Library Network grant, will provide resources and training for the University and wider community. A Caring Community

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Class of 2024 is combining Clarkson’s value of caring with the American Physical Therapy Association’s value of social responsibility. The result? A year filled with community service and outreach initiatives. These not only benefit the community but also students, who will learn the skills required to plan and organize events that make an impact. READ MORE

NIH Awards PT Professor

While student loans are at the top of many people’s minds right now, one Clarkson professor just got a reprieve. Physical therapy professor Kwadwo Appiah-Kubi received a $50,000 award from the National Institutes of Health that is given to researchers recently out of school so that they have the resources to focus on their work. Welcome Back!

We are pleased to welcome a Golden Knight back into the realm! Samantha Lucas MS’16 has joined the Lewis School as a clinical assistant professor of physician assistant studies. She joins us from Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where she served as a physician assistant, and brings years of experience in urgent care and emergency medicine. READ MORE
