Find Me Printer Deployment Update

Clarkson’s Office of Information Technology files the following report with updates to note below:

In November 2022, the Potsdam campus saw the installation of forty-one new BizHub printers deployed to multiple public access locations and departmental offices. All students, faculty and staff are now Find Me printing from their desktop or mobile devices.

Much appreciation to our staff for this successful deployment which involved both physical efforts and technical expertise across multiple teams. We also want to recognize the campus community overall for their grace and cooperation as the team worked through the details of this project. Thank you!

Performance of the new printers has seen a strong start. As evidenced by the infographic included with this update, printing activity is steady with more than 20,000 print jobs ordered up in November alone! We celebrate the reduction in paper through abandoned print jobs. Efforts to dial-in cost accounting of department activity are on-going and we expect to report updates again next month.

Couple of open items of note:

Funding of printer paper: Departments are asked to continue ordering replacement paper for their BizHub printers through the Central Supply office as they have done in the past. Central Supply (centralsupply@clarkson.edu) will charge these orders to a central OIT account, which is designed to cover paper and consumables for the BizHubs. This will be used to calculate and pass along per-page billing rates. Departments are asked to fund all other non BizHub printing and paper orders with an account number at the time of order.

Removal of old devices: We are currently in a holding pattern with the vendor per the terms of our prior agreement and waiting on the carrier to schedule removal. As soon as we know more we will inform the community. We recognize the inconvenience these devices may be causing in your workspaces. Some of you have been in touch, and in a few extreme cases, we have been able to relocate devices to alternate holding spaces. Our capacity to do so is limited, but if you need support there please reach out.
