Brian Fratto Ph.D ’13 ’16

After obtaining his bachelor’s degree from Clarkson University in 2013, Dr. Fratto continued his studies at Clarkson under Prof. Evgeny Katz, receiving his Ph.D. in 2016 after many successful collaborations with the late Prof. Vladimir Privman, and the late Prof. Artem Melman.  While an undergrad, Dr. Fratto was a member of the men’s rugby football club.

Currently, Dr. Fratto is a Senior Scientist at C2Sense, Inc., an MIT “Tough Tech” spinout.  As the principal researcher of the Advanced Research Team, Dr. Fratto’s work has enabled him to be a co-inventor of the enabling technology behind C2Sense’s diagnostic platform, HaloTM, as well as its authentication and sensing platforms. His current areas of research span chemistry, material science, fluidics, optical sensing, and computer vision.

Prior to C2Sense, Dr. Fratto worked in the automotive and railroad safety industry, researching gaseous and transdermal sensing methods while developing, qualifying, and deploying testing apparatus. In addition to his research positions, Dr. Fratto has spent many years laboring on stormwater, roadwork, and general construction projects, enabling both an academic and boots-on-the-ground perspective when problem solving.

When not in the lab, Dr. Fratto can be found collecting and restoring antique power tools, working on cars, and woodworking.
