Housing and the Spring Semester

Dear Residential Students,

As we approach the conclusion of the semester, the Residence Life Office wishes to remind students of the university’s policies regarding open bed spaces (or bed spaces that will become available) for the upcoming Spring semester.

Our policies pertaining to vacancies in campus housing are as follows:

Clarkson University’s Potsdam campus operates as a four-year residential community. It is mandatory for all undergraduate students to reside on campus for a total of eight semesters. The Residence Life Office retains the authority to make assignment changes at its discretion, often with minimal or no prior notice. This is done in response to various factors, including facility limitations, shifts in enrollment, conflict resolution, or the broader requirements of the residential community. These changes may encompass reassigning students to any available vacant spaces.

With students graduating in December, joining the university in January, and participating in various experiences such as Study Abroad, CO-OPs, ADK, or Trudeau semesters, adjustments within the residential housing on campus are inevitable. If you currently have an open bed space in your living area and are not specifically designated as having a single bedroom, you should be prepared for the possibility of receiving a roommate. Your room should be arranged to accommodate the arrival of a new resident at any time, often with minimal advance notice. We will strive to fill these vacant spaces across the campus.

For the Spring semester, students who are currently away from campus for experiential learning programs will receive an email from Residence Life prior to the Thanksgiving break, containing paperwork to complete concerning their return. The Office of Residence Life will prioritize placing these incoming students into open spaces that are cohort-appropriate before considering internal moves within the campus housing.

Sincerely,
The Office of Residence Life
