IMPORTANT: Clarkson Financial Aid Update

Delays with processing your FAFSA and ultimately receiving a financial aid offer is undoubtedly frustrating. We are frustrated too, however, the Federal Government has now started releasing information. Allow me to give you a brief update on what you can expect in the coming weeks regarding your financial aid offer.

Clarkson’s Process…

The Department of Education (DOE) began releasing FAFSA results to colleges and universities last week. The DOE informed us that we should expect more files in small batches over the next couple of weeks.

Our regular financial aid process combines merit-based scholarships with need-based financial aid. We do this for the convenience and simplicity it provides families. Some universities send scholarships (merit awards) early before later applying for any need-based aid. When you receive Clarkson’s official financial aid offer, it will contain all the information you require in one comprehensive document, not just the merit awards for which you are eligible.

What This Means For You…

We anticipate sending the first round of financial aid offers to students and families within the next two weeks. If you do not receive an offer in that time frame, it is because we have not received your information from the DOE; please be patient. We will continue to provide offers as quickly as possible once your FAFSA information arrives from the DOE. Please know that regardless of when your FAFSA information comes to us, you will be considered for all the same merit and need-based scholarships for which you are eligible. When your financial aid offer is available, you will receive an email directing you to your Clarkson Status Portal where you will be able to view the offer.

What can you do…

  • Be on the lookout for any emails from the Department of Education regarding your FAFSA and take action as needed.
  • Complete the SSN Checklist Item on your CU Status Portal To-Do list if you haven’t already done so.

Finally, we understand that this situation is causing stress and anxiety for many students.  Please know that we will not ask you to make an enrollment decision until you have a full and complete financial aid package.  We welcome you to respond to this email or call the number below with any questions or concerns you might have.
