Last few days to vote for Sustainability Fund

So far 205 people have voted on this year’s Sustainability Fund. The top two projects are only 8 votes apart! We will direct the $25k fund to the winning project. During the academic year, a team of faculty, staff and students will complete project design with implementation beginning in Spring 2021.

The projects are:

  • Invest in bike infrastructure
  • Support green vehicles
  • Food waste management
  • Solid waste management
  • Create a campus digital energy dashboard with screen displays throughout campus

Background: The annual Sustainability Fund has been a long-standing avenue for engaging a cross section of campus in sustainability initiatives.  These efforts have resulted in actions ranging from the installation of water refill bottles to the creation of a campus garden. In the last few years we’ve changed how we structure the fund. Instead of several small projects we decided to support one larger project/theme each year to have a greater, more focused impact.

Five projects with faculty and staff facilitators have been proposed, one of which will be selected for implementation. Some of the projects have aspects that can include the CRC campus. The project selected for this year will be determined based on a campus-wide vote AND on the willingness of our community to engage in the project planning and implementation. Please consider the options, vote for your favorite until 10/16 and consider volunteering to be involved.  Components of the projects could be integrated into class projects, student internships, club activities or service learning.  For most of these projects, planning and feasibility assessments will continue through the spring semester with implementation to follow.
