Chunlei Liang Appointed Professor of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering at Clarkson University

Chunlei Liang has been appointed professor of mechanical & aeronautical engineering at Clarkson University.

His research interests include computational fluid dynamics, high-performance computation, computational magnetohydrodynamics, and fluid-structure interaction. Liang has successfully advised eight Ph.D. dissertations and three master of science theses.

Liang has received more than $1.5 million in research funding from the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, the National Center for Atmospheric Research and other organizations.

He has been an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics since 2013 and is also a member of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the United States Association for Computational Mechanics.

Liang was a recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER award in 2016, a U.S. Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Program award in 2014, the Ralph E. Powe Young Faculty Award in 2012, and the Japan Society for Promotion of Science Invitation Fellowship, among other awards. In 2019, he was also named a recipient of a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.

He is an editorial board member of Computers & Fluids and has published in International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, Astrophysical Journal, Journal of Computational Physics, and Computers & Fluids, among other publications.

Liang previously served as an assistant professor and associate professor at George Washington University in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of London and his bachelor of science in thermal power engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University.
