Ginger Hunter Appointed Assistant Professor of Biology at Clarkson University

Ginger Hunter has been appointed assistant professor of biology at Clarkson University.

She received her bachelor’s of science in biology from the University of Virginia and her Ph.D. in biology from Duke University.

Hunter concentrates her research on how local cell-cell interactions drive large-scale tissue patterning during development. To investigate this, she studies the self-organizing pattern of sensory bristles on the dorsal thorax of fruit flies, a model organism for animal genetics and disease. She recently completed post-doctoral research at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Maryland, as well as at the Laboratory of Molecular and Cell Biology and Institute for the Physics of Living Systems at University College London in the United Kingdom.

In 2017, she received the Fellows Award for Research Excellence. In 2016, she was the recipient of the Company of Biologists/EMBO conference award. She has been awarded travel grants from the NINDS, the Biochemical Society, the American Society for Cell Biology, Sigma Xi and Duke University.

She is a member of the American Society for Cell Biology and the Genetics Society of America.
