Ben Galluzzo Appointed Associate Professor in the Institute for STEM Education at Clarkson University

Ben Galluzzo has been appointed associate professor in the Institute for STEM Education at Clarkson University.

He holds both his bachelor of science and Ph.D.from the University of Iowa. He received his master’s degree from Boston University.

Galluzzo concentrates his research on mathematical modeling with particular emphasis on real world application of mathematical concepts and strategies, faculty mentorship and using mathematical modeling within the high school classroom. He has experience developing new courses and delivering workshops on these areas. His current National Science Foundation grant is focused on integrating math modeling with computational thinking to bring authentic and relevant problem solving to high school mathematics classrooms. He has presented his findings at many conferences and has published his work in journals like PRIMUS: Problems, Resources, and Issues in Mathematics Undergraduates Studies; Math Modeling: Computing and Communicating; and On the Cutting Edge Peer Reviewed Teaching Activities Collection.

He is the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including the 2017 QUBES Faculty Mentoring Fellowship and the 2016 Mathematical Association of America’s Henry L. Alder Award. He was also selected as a winner of the 2016 Ben Franklin Technology Partners BIG IDEA Contest for his MathEdge Fantasy Sports, LLC startup pitch.

He is a member of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, the Mathematical Association of America, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Numeracy Network, the Pennsylvania Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics where he currently serves as Chair of the professional society’s Special Interest Activity Group on Applied Mathematics Education.

Prior to joining Clarkson, Galluzzo was an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics at Shippensburg University and founder of MathEdge Fantasy Sports, LLC. Prior to that, he worked in multiple positions for Boston based financial firms.
