Heather M. Shattuck has been appointed clinical assistant professor of physical therapy at Clarkson University.
Since 2014, she has served the department as a clinical instructor whose primary teaching responsibilities are in the area of pediatric patient/client management.
Shattuck has 20 years of experience as a physical therapist and six years as an adjunct faculty member in the physical therapy program, during which she has served as a tutor, lab assistant, course coordinator and lecturer.
She is an American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certified clinical specialist in pediatrics and an American Physical Therapy Association credentialed clinical instructor.
In addition to Shattuck’s clinical experience with pediatric clients, she has also worked in the acute and outpatient settings with patients with a variety of health conditions. She is a licensed physical therapist in New York and New Jersey, and continues to see pediatric clients in home, school and outpatient settings.
According to the ABPTS directory of certified specialists, there are only three practitioners (including Shattuck) within 100 miles of Clarkson, with the two other practitioners roughly 90 miles away in northern Vermont. In New York, the next closest pediatric certified specialists are in Syracuse.
Shattuck is also a physical therapist for early intervention and preschool services and part-time staff therapist at North Coast Therapy; and part-time director of physical therapy, consultative services at Exceptional Kidz Rehabilitation.
She previously served as a physical therapist at Health Services of Northern New York; physical therapy supervisor and clinical site coordinator of clinical education at the Jefferson Rehabilitation Center; operations manager of off-site outpatient clinics and clinical instructor at Carthage Area Hospital; physical therapist at Samaritan Medical Center; and physical therapist at Physical Therapy Associates in Beaumont, Texas.
She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association as well as its New York State Chapter and Pediatric Section.
Shattuck received her post-professional doctorate of physical therapy from Utica College and her master of science and bachelor of science in physical therapy from D’Youville College.
