Daniel Andreescu Receives Promotion to Associate Professor at Clarkson University

Clarkson University President Tony Collins has announced that Daniel Andreescu has been promoted from assistant professor to associate professor of chemistry & biomolecular science in the School of Arts & Sciences. Andreescu also serves as Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Science instrumentation manager.

Andreescu’s research interests are in analytical methods for qualitative and quantitative investigations of nanoparticles; synthesis and characterization of ultra-fine and nano-size particles; interactions of nanoparticles with organic and inorganic pollutants, and fate, transformation and toxicity of nanoparticles in the environment; and single-particle electrochemistry. In addition, he teaches the Spectroscopy and Instrumental Laboratories.

He is the co-inventor of four patents and the author or co-author of a number of publications.

Andreescu came to Clarkson in 2003 as a postdoctoral research associate in the Center for Advanced Materials Processing working in the group of Professor Daniel V. Goia on projects related to material chemistry with a focus on synthesis and characterization of ultra-fine and nanosize metallic and metal-composite particles.

He joined the Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Science in 2008 as the instrumentation manager, overseeing the operation of the department’s core instrumentation facility and providing training for research and teaching personnel on the use of HPLC, GC, GC-MS, UV-VIS spectrometers, fluorimeters, multi-well plate readers, atomic adsorption and NMR spectrometers.

Prior to Clarkson, Andreescu was a visiting researcher at SUNY Binghamton, a research scientist at the International Center of Biodynamics in Bucharest and an analytical chemist and deputy head of the Air Pollution Control Laboratory at the National Institute for Industrial Ecology in Bucharest.

Andreescu received his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, his master of science degree in environmental quality control and his bachelor of science in chemistry from the University of Bucharest.
