Identifying and Responding to Students Approved for Remote Learning Fall 2020 Semester

Dear Faculty and Course Instructors,

Working within narrow margins to develop the fall 2020 course schedule, we are reminded that faculty requests for changes in instructional mode or location are being met to the extent possible, while at the same time balancing the needs of our students and the safety of the Clarkson and larger Potsdam community.

Recently students were extended the same opportunity as Clarkson employees, to submit requests to learn remotely from off-campus under eligible criteria. Students who have been approved to study remotely will be designated on the class roster in myCU faculty center as well as in Moodle for the fall 2020 semester with the student group FDST.

It is then the expectation that instructors adjust their pedagogy to include the remote student learner by insuring lecture capture, including inclusive syllabus instruction, exercising flexibility to support student achievement, and responding with the Clarkson values of caring and service to support all students on a progressive path toward degree completion.

Thank you for your creativity, flexibility, and in your exploration of options for course content delivery in advance of a successful fall semester. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the Provost’s Office with questions or resource referral to assist you with supporting any remote learners you may have in your classes this fall.
