New Research Advisory Committee

Dear Faculty,

I recently formed an internal research advisory committee for the research and innovation enterprise within Clarkson.  In an effort to build off of the successful co-chair work that Michelle and I have been partnering on with the resumption of research throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and as appointed by the Provost, Michelle Crimi will continue in a chair role on this advisory committee.  It is important to hear and seek input from a variety of faculty voices to not only support but moreover to enable and inspire a climate where all can achieve their highest research aspirations.  After the first term, we will seek feedback from this initial cohort group on future committee improvements and recommendations.

The Research Advisory Committee is comprised of a diverse cross-section of disciplines and faculty levels across campus representing each of the major academic units on campus. The committee also includes the dean of the graduate school and associate deans of research.  The committee shall serve to advise the AVP for Research and other Office of Research and Technology Transfer executive staff on resources and priorities with regard to University research and technology innovation.  The committee is structured into (3) three working groups:  Policy Support (Marcias Martinez, Lead), Training and Tools Support (Andrea Ferro, Lead), and Strategy and Opportunities (Stephanie Schuckers, Lead).

The Advisory Committee working groups make recommendations and reviews regulations and policies pertaining to research and IP activities, reviews applications for internal research funding initiatives, research space, the IRB, Shipley partnerships, research funding, external collaborations, interdepartmental communications and other matters within the purview of the Office of Research and Technology Transfer.  The Advisory Committee also provides advice and makes recommendations to the AVP for Research and Technology Transfer on general issues concerning the research and innovation program infrastructure that could substantively improve existing research programs at the university as well as other such matters the AVP may deem appropriate.

The leadership of the Office of Research and Technology Transfer will work collaboratively with the Advisory Committee to identify areas of strategic research investment and to plan annual faculty professional development programming. The committee acts as a liaison to facilitate communication between The Office of Research and Technology Transfer and the faculty within the various schools, departments, and other academic and ancillary units.

You can find more information regarding the research advisory committee charge, membership, and the roles of each of the working group on the SRS intranet site located here.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me or Michelle.

All the best this academic year.  Stay well and hope to see everyone soon.
