The Clarkson School is the second oldest early college program in the country. Through its unique residential and co-curricular programming, the Clarkson School (TCS) offers unique learning experiences to 11th and 12th-grade students who have progressed beyond their high school curriculum and are ready for a fresh challenge.
Ben Galluzzo, Associate Professor in the Institute for STEM Education, has been appointed the Head of the Clarkson School. In this role, Professor Galluzzo will extend the school’s impact on early college student success and academic achievement, coordinate and advance new opportunities to connect the Clarkson School to the Institute for STEM Education and build upon the school’s historic reputation for excellence towards a nationally reputed early college experience that engages a diverse student population.
“A nationally recognized leader in the development, delivery, and assessment of STEM learning in formal and informal settings, Professor Galluzzo brings a depth of talent and a vision for the future of the Clarkson School. I anticipate an exciting next chapter for the Clarkson School and am beyond thrilled that he has agreed to serve in the role of Head of School. Throughout his career, Professor Galluzzo has committed himself to engaging students of all ages in the wonders of STEM with a particular focus on the incorporation of mathematical modelling skills at the undergraduate level and a targeted leveraging of the wonders of experiential learning in empowering younger students and teachers to succeed in STEM,” said Provost Robyn Hannigan.
An Associate Professor in the Institute for STEM Education since 2018, Professor Galluzzo has authored numerous publications and served as principal investigator of numerous grants. Galluzzo is the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including the 2017 QUBES Faculty Mentoring Fellowship and the 2016 Mathematical Association of America’s Henry L. Alder Award. He was also selected as a winner of the 2016 Ben Franklin Technology Partners BIG IDEA Contest for his MathEdge Fantasy Sports, LLC startup pitch. A graduate of the University of Iowa, Professor Galluzzo earned his M.S. from Boston University and his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and Computational Sciences at the University of Iowa. Prior to coming to Clarkson University, Professor Galluzzo was a faculty member at Shippensburg University in the Department of Mathematics.
Professor Jennifer Knack, associate professor of psychology, had been serving as interim head of TCS.
