Message From the Dean
As we begin a new school year, we find ourselves amidst a pivotal moment in Clarkson’s history. In the words of the University’s new strategic plan framework, whenever society needs us, Golden Knights Rise. For this to remain true at Clarkson, the School of Arts & Sciences must lead the way. This is why we have combined entrepreneurial science, accelerated degree programs and micro-credentialing to create a competitive advantage, as well as to add incredible educational value for our students.
The creative mindset that our faculty, staff and students display is evident from some of the articles featured within this newsletter. You will read of our students winning prestigious Fulbright Awards and being funded to present their research at national conferences. You will also see how our faculty and students are engaged in team science to create a new toxin removal process and learn about sponsored research that helps identify factors that promote aquatic invasive species in the New York Great Lakes Basin.
Arts & Sciences is excited to welcome a diverse class of incoming students and faculty. In line with our institutional values, equity and inclusion are at the forefront of our efforts to ensure educational access and an affirming campus environment. Fulbright Award Winners
Part of our mission at Clarkson is to attune ourselves to a global, pluralistic society, and we think it’s essential for our students to be global citizens. That’s why we’re so pleased and proud that three Golden Knights will be venturing abroad this upcoming academic year to pursue research and graduate studies, thanks to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Stalling Snails
For something that moves so slowly, non-native snails have caused a lot of trouble in New York as they invade the state’s rivers and lakes. But Professor Andrew David is on the case. Funded by a grant from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the Great Lakes Research Consortium, David is looking for ways to limit their spread. READ MORE
Going National
The students in Professor Silvana Andreescu’s classes are going places. Two graduate students and one undergrad recently received awards that will allow them to attend and present at prestigious national academic conferences. Two will head to the Eastern Analytical Symposium and Exposition and one will attend the 2021 Fall ACS National Meeting. READ MORE
Removing Pollutants
At Clarkson, we are always looking for ways to take care of the environment and create a safe and healthy natural experience for everyone. In their latest effort to tackle the problem of chemical pollutants, a group of our researchers detailed a new methodology for removing PFASs from contaminated water in Chemistry of Materials.
