Message From the Dean

Clarkson University Welcomes New Arts and Sciences Dean

As we begin a new school year, we find ourselves amidst a pivotal moment in Clarkson’s history. In the words of the University’s new strategic plan framework, whenever society needs us, Golden Knights Rise. For this to remain true at Clarkson, the School of Arts & Sciences must lead the way. This is why we have combined entrepreneurial science, accelerated degree programs and micro-credentialing to create a competitive advantage, as well as to add incredible educational value for our students.

The creative mindset that our faculty, staff and students display is evident from some of the articles featured within this newsletter. You will read of our students winning prestigious Fulbright Awards and being funded to present their research at national conferences. You will also see how our faculty and students are engaged in team science to create a new toxin removal process and learn about sponsored research that helps identify factors that promote aquatic invasive species in the New York Great Lakes Basin.

Arts & Sciences is excited to welcome a diverse class of incoming students and faculty. In line with our institutional values, equity and inclusion are at the forefront of our efforts to ensure educational access and an affirming campus environment. We look forward to continued collaboration among our departments and across the University in these endeavors. The enclosed articles demonstrate these efforts, as well as why the School of Arts & Sciences embodies the essence of the Clarkson spirit.

— Darryl Scriven, Dean of Arts & Sciences, Fellow in The Shipley Center for Innovation
