September is Hunger Action Month, a good time to learn more about our food system – food supplies, food insecurity, and how to help reduce food waste. A Food Waste Expo will be held in the gymnasium of the AAK Middle School in Potsdam, on Thursday, September 30th from 6:00-8:00 PM. This event is open to the public and is appropriate for all ages. Visitors will have the opportunity to browse through a variety of interactive exhibits by students, community volunteers, and organizations such as the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, Wild Center, Nicandri Nature Center, Cornell Cooperative Extension, the North Country Children’s Museum, Big Spoon Kitchen, Foster the Plant, and GardenShare. Try your hand at Food Waste Bingo, visit the photo booth, learn waste reduction food prep tips and pick up easy recipes to take home and test yourself! You can even take a spin on the smoothie bike as we learn how to do our part to reduce food waste in our homes and larger community. So much to explore you’ll have to come see for yourself!

This event is sponsored by a partnership between Clarkson University and the Village/Town of Potsdam Climate Smart Communities (CSC) Task Force whose goal is to increase community awareness and stakeholder engagement necessary to develop a suitable plan for a community-scale food waste management program in the Town of Potsdam. Funding for the project is provided by the NYS Pollution Prevention Institute through a grant from the Environmental Fund as administered by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
