Congratulations to Recipients of Clarkson Team Science Project Planning Grant

Congratulations to the recipients of Clarkson’s inaugural Team Science Project Planning Grant initiative funded by the Provost’s Office and launched in December 2021 by Sponsored Research Services in partnership with the Research Advisory Council. Transdisciplinary teams submitted proposals in response to a call for “submissions that engage senior and junior faculty and cross disciplinary boundaries. We are particularly interested in non-traditional, high-risk/high-payoff proposals that may lead to the development of significant research efforts, including intellectual property. In addition, the team must demonstrate engagement with stakeholders to motivate the impact of the research and its relevance to technology serving humanity and the importance of the project for society.”  Following external review by Team Science and technical experts, seven teams were invited to present their ideas and plans to a panel of judges.  The following three were selected to receive a one-year investment in their planning activities:

A Holistic Approach to Characterize and Quantify Microplastics in a Riverine Watershed Under Climate-driven Changes

Abul Basar Baki, Alan Christian, Brigette Walsh, Courtney Johnson-Woods, Omar Abdul Aziz, Thomas Holsen, Masudul Imtiaz

Nanofluid-Thermosyphons for Infrastructure Foundation Stabilization in Permafrost

Suguang Xiao, Maria Gracheva, Goodarz Ahmadi, Devon Shipp

The Transition to a Sustainable and Reliable Electric Grid-transportation System

Qingran Li, Steve Bird, Sue Powers, Tom Ortmeyer, Leo Yazhou Jiang

At the end of the planning stage, teams are required to submit at least one major research and/or educational proposal with a budget greater than $700K to an external agency/organization. This is a great collaborative effort by our distinguished faculty members. We look forward to supporting their significant research efforts and recognizing the impact of their projects on society.
