Syed Bazif, a Pakistani National, is a junior Clarkson mechanical engineering student from Queens Village, NY has been awarded the National Grid “Charging Our Future” DEI (Diversity Equity and Inclusion) Engineering Scholarship. The student receives awards of $10,000 with a paid internship opportunity to engineering majors. The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals.
“I believe in our Clarkson community. We are a diverse bunch of global change-makers in the development and implementation of sustainable, innovative, and affordable energy solutions to multinational groups. I am proud to be a part of it,” Bazif said. “The fact that National Grid sponsored this scholarship makes it even more impactful.”
Bazif is currently enrolled in his final year mechanical engineering program, with a teaching assistantship in the Clarkson Mathematics department and aiming to pursue his research in materials science and engineering.
At Clarkson, Bazif currently works with the Society for Pakistan Student Association (PSA) as a chapter General Secretary helping them with linkages, and professional and social development. Moreover, he is also serving as a President for Muslim Student Association (MSA). Recently, he has worked with the counselor of the Clarkson University Graduate Student Association (CUGSA) by assisting in the management and organization of events. Besides this, Bazif enjoys arranging food pantry events at Clarkson University. In his free time, he enjoys “spending time with lab mates, working on new mechanical and materials ideas, and learning as much as [he] can ”. Bazif’s overall goal is to join the engineering field as he has already done a mechanical and computer programming internship at Quantine – The Columbia Startup Lab (CSL) which is a landmark of Columbia University’s longstanding spirit of innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurship.
