COVID-19 Read: Election Day Travel for Those Voting in Person

With Election Day around the corner, the University acknowledges the importance of engaging in our civic duty to select our elected officials. In light of the University’s COVID-19 travel restrictions, the voting options below are available to students studying at the Potsdam campus.

  • Request an absentee ballot and return by USPS mail: You may request an absentee ballot by the deadline determined in your state. The New York State deadline is October 27. Please be warned that despite this deadline, USPS has advised they cannot guarantee timely delivery of ballots applied for less than 15 days before an election. Absentee ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by the deadline identified by your state. The New York State deadline is November 3.
  • Request an absentee ballot and return in person: To return an absentee ballot in-person, go to the local board of elections (prior to November 3) or go to a local polling place (on November 3).
  • Travel home to vote in person: Students who decide to vote in their home region which is outside of the North Country region must submit a Travel Request Form. Students who travel to vote in their home region will be required to quarantine for 14 days prior to returning campus.  Please keep in mind a 14 day quarantine beginning on November 3 would have a return date of November 18.
