Working with Akwesasne (Indigenous Communities)

Speaker: Phillip White-Cree

Tuesday, November 22nd – 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Lounge, Student Center

Phillip White-Cree, Coordinator of Indigenous Community Support and Outreach, will be hosting a discussion on working with the local community of Akwesasne and its people. The discussion will discuss proper terms and respectful approaches with Indigenous Communities, followed by a brief journey into local and Akwesasne history. This will allow students, faculty, staff, and researchers to understand the complexities of working with Indigenous populations in meaningful and collaborative approaches.

Being from the community, Phillip White-Cree has local experiences and an understanding of the various community dynamics. He also has worked on cultural and historical training with different governmental and law enforcement agencies with over eight years of experience. If you have questions or want to learn about another piece of local history and its people, please join the discussion.
